Description

Warm, rustic and nourishing Whole Wheat Bread made with simple pantry ingredients. This homemade loaf is soft inside, golden outside, and perfect for everyday meals. A traditional-inspired recipe from Crete that brings comfort and health to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 23 tbsp mixed seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with honey and let it foam.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add yeast mixture and olive oil.
  4. Knead dough for 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise for 1–1.5 hours.
  6. Shape dough into loaf and place in pan.
  7. Let it rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  8. Bake at 180°C for 30–35 minutes until golden.
  9. Cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can replace honey with maple syrup. Add seeds for extra texture. Store at room temperature for 3 days or freeze sliced bread for longer storage. Brush with olive oil after baking for a softer crust.
