Description

Crispy golden fried tacos filled with seasoned beef, vegetables, and creamy refried beans. A hearty Mexican classic with a satisfying crunch and bold flavors.


Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/2 lb lean ground beef
4 whole wheat tortillas
1 cup shredded lettuce
1/2 cup diced tomatoes
1/2 cup refried beans
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup crumbled cheese (optional)
1/4 cup sliced avocado (optional)


Instructions

Mix flour, salt, baking powder, cumin, garlic powder, and paprika in a bowl
Gradually add warm water to form a soft dough
Knead dough for 5 minutes, then let rest for 10 minutes
Roll dough into thin circles (about 1/8″ thick) using a 4″ diameter template
Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot (325°F 165°C)
Fry tortilla pieces until golden and crisp (about 1-2 minutes per side)
In a pan, cook ground beef with spices until browned and crumbly
To assemble, place a tortilla shell on a plate and add refried beans, beef mixture, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheese, and avocado

Notes

Use masa harina instead of all-purpose flour for corn-based tacos
Substitute corn tortillas for gluten-free version
Ground turkey or plant-based crumbles work as beef alternatives
Smoked paprika adds deeper flavor
Store leftovers in sealed containers (beef filling up to 3 days, tortillas up to 1 day)
