Description

This classic fall dessert features a light, spiced sponge cake infused with 100% pure pumpkin, rolled around a decadent, velvety cream cheese filling. Perfectly balancing earthy warmth with tangy sweetness, this elegant spiral log is a staple for autumn holidays and gatherings, offering a sophisticated presentation that is achievable for bakers of any skill level.

Ingredients

Scale

3/4 cup 100% pure canned pumpkin puree
3 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
3/4 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 15×10 inch jelly roll pan.
Line the pan with parchment paper and grease the paper lightly.
Whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves in a medium bowl.
Beat eggs and 3/4 cup sugar in a large bowl on high speed until pale and fluffy.
Gently fold the pumpkin puree into the egg mixture.
Stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Spread batter evenly across the prepared pan and smooth with an offset spatula.
Bake for 15 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched.
Lay a clean kitchen towel on the counter and dust generously with powdered sugar.
Invert the warm cake onto the towel, peel off parchment, roll the cake up tightly with the towel, and let cool.
Beat cream cheese and remaining powdered sugar until smooth.
Unroll the cooled cake, spread filling evenly, and roll back up to serve.

Notes

Ensure the cake is still warm when you initially roll it in the towel, as this helps it set in the spiral shape without cracking. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Use 100% pure pumpkin puree rather than pumpkin pie filling to control the spice levels.
