Description
This Old Fashioned Apple Crisp is the ultimate comfort dessert, featuring tender, spiced apples topped with a crunchy, golden oat-based streusel. By combining tart Granny Smith apples with sweet Honeycrisp, this recipe strikes the perfect balance between fruit texture and buttery, caramelized sweetness. It is a quintessential American classic that relies on simple pantry staples to create a crowd-pleasing treat that defines home-baked warmth in every bite.
Ingredients
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
4 large Honeycrisp apples, cored and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup cold unsalted butter
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel, core, and slice all ten apples into uniform wedges.
Combine the apple slices with half of the granulated sugar and half of the cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
Toss the apples until well coated and spread them evenly into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, oats, and remaining cinnamon.
Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or fingers until crumbly.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple layer.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Notes
Use chilled butter to ensure the topping stays crumbly rather than greasy. Serve warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
