Description

A comforting Southern classic featuring creamy pudding, ripe bananas, and soft bread in harmonious layers. Balanced richness and moisture with a touch of cinnamon warmth.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups (90g) vanilla pudding mix
2 cups (480ml) whole milk
6 medium ripe bananas
1 (1lb) loaf butter fluff bread
1 cup (240ml) whipped cream (churned to soft peaks)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

Mix pudding base: Whisk pudding mix with milk until fully incorporated.
Prepare bananas: Slice bananas and place in milk while assembling.
Assemble first layer: Spread 1/3 of the pudding mixture in a 5-quart trifle dish.
Add bread layer: Cover with 4 slices of fluff bread, gently pressed.
Add banana slices: Place 10-12 banana slices evenly over the bread.
Repeat layers: Alternate remaining pudding, bread (2 slices), and bananas in 2 more cycles.
Final layer: Finish with a pudding top layer.
Chill 2 hours, then add whipped cream 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use room-temperature milk to prevent curdling
Mist bread with brewed coffee for depth
Chill each pudding layer 20 minutes before adding next layer
Substitute spiced biscuits for bread if needed
Dairy-free pudding mix can be used
