Description
A lighter, healthier, and protein-packed take on the classic American comfort food. This version uses lean ground chicken to create a savory, tangy sauce that is perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. The balance of brown sugar and apple cider vinegar provides that iconic diner-style flavor without the heavy grease of traditional ground beef recipes.
Ingredients
1 lb Ground Chicken (90% lean or higher)
1 medium Onion, finely diced
1 large Bell Pepper, diced
3 cloves Garlic, minced
8 oz Tomato Sauce (plain)
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
1 tbsp Halal/Anchovy-free Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp Yellow Mustard
1 tbsp Neutral oil
4 Hamburger buns
Instructions
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with one tablespoon of neutral oil.
Add the diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet and sauté for five minutes until soft.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.
Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it into small crumbles with a spatula.
Cook until the chicken is fully browned and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Stir in the tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard.
Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat evenly.
Serve warm on toasted hamburger buns.
Notes
Ensure the Worcestershire sauce used is certified halal or specifies it is anchovy-free to keep the dish fully compliant. Serve with a side of coleslaw or sweet potato fries for a complete meal.
