Description

These Gougères with Garlic are light, airy French cheese puffs made with choux pastry, Gruyère cheese, and fresh garlic. Crispy outside and soft inside, they are perfect as appetizers, brunch bites, or party snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, bring water, milk, and butter to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat, add flour all at once, and stir until dough forms.
  4. Return to low heat and cook 1–2 minutes.
  5. Transfer to bowl and add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  6. Fold in cheese, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  7. Pipe small mounds onto baking sheet.
  8. Bake 20–25 minutes until golden and puffed.
  9. Cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs for best texture. Avoid opening the oven while baking. Gougères freeze well and can be reheated directly from frozen.
