Description

Easy Homemade Focaccia is a soft, airy, and golden Italian-style bread made with simple pantry ingredients and generous olive oil. This beginner-friendly focaccia recipe creates a fluffy interior with crispy edges and fragrant rosemary on top. Perfect for dipping, sandwiches, serving with soups, or enjoying warm straight from the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 100°F / 38°C)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour.
  4. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Generously oil a baking pan and transfer the dough into the pan, stretching it gently to fit.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Press your fingers deeply into the dough to create dimples.
  10. Drizzle olive oil generously over the top and sprinkle with rosemary and flaky sea salt.
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor. Do not skip the second rise for an airy texture. Store at room temperature wrapped in foil for up to 2 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes. You can top with cherry tomatoes, olives, or caramelized onions for variation.
