Ingredients
- 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 100°F / 38°C)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour.
- Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Generously oil a baking pan and transfer the dough into the pan, stretching it gently to fit.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Press your fingers deeply into the dough to create dimples.
- Drizzle olive oil generously over the top and sprinkle with rosemary and flaky sea salt.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor. Do not skip the second rise for an airy texture. Store at room temperature wrapped in foil for up to 2 days. Reheat in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes. You can top with cherry tomatoes, olives, or caramelized onions for variation.
