Description

This easy homemade apple crisp is the ultimate comfort dessert, featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a crunchy, buttery oat streusel. Using a blend of tart Granny Smith apples and cold, cubed butter ensures a perfect balance of texture and flavor, making it a reliable, professional-quality treat that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, divided
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel, core, and slice the apples uniformly into thin wedges.
Toss the apple slices in a large bowl with the granulated sugar and half of the cinnamon.
Transfer the apple mixture into a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and the remaining cinnamon.
Cut the cold, cubed butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse, pea-sized crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
Bake for 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling at the edges.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Ensure butter is kept cold until the moment you cut it into the flour to maintain the signature crispy texture. You can serve this warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
