Ingredients
1.5 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup whole milk
1 tsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
6 oz crispy fried onions
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the green beans for 4 minutes until bright green.
Drain the beans immediately and plunge them into an ice-water bath to stop the cooking process.
Combine the soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
Fold the blanched green beans and half of the fried onions into the creamy mixture.
Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch casserole dish and spread into an even layer.
Bake for 25 minutes until the edges are bubbling.
Remove from the oven, sprinkle with the remaining fried onions, and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
Notes
Use fresh green beans for the best structural integrity. You may substitute half-and-half for the whole milk for an even richer texture. Ensure the beans are thoroughly dried after the ice bath to keep the sauce from becoming watery.
