Description
Experience the quintessential Southern dessert with this cast iron peach cobbler. Featuring succulent, cinnamon-kissed fresh peaches nestled under a buttery, golden-brown biscuit crust, this recipe utilizes the superior heat retention of a cast iron skillet to achieve perfectly caramelized edges. It is a comforting, rustic treat that balances the natural sweetness of stone fruit with a rich, flaky topping, making it the perfect finish to any family meal.
Ingredients
6 cups fresh peaches, sliced and peeled
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup whole milk, room temperature
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup of sugar and the cinnamon.
Place the butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet and melt it inside the oven while it preheats.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, baking powder, and milk until smooth.
Pour the batter directly over the melted butter in the skillet, do not stir.
Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the top of the batter.
Bake for 45 minutes until the cobbler is deep golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use fully ripe peaches for maximum juiciness. If fresh peaches are out of season, frozen sliced peaches work well as a substitute. Ensure the butter does not brown too much while the oven preheats.
