Ingredients
For the dough:
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 packet of active dry yeast
1/2 cup of warm milk
1/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of melted butter
1 large egg
1 teaspoon of salt
For the filling:
1/2 cup of softened butter
1 cup of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
For the icing:
1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of milk
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix in the melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually add the flour and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Roll Out the Dough:
Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
Add the Cinnamon Sugar Filling:
Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract (optional).
Shape and Slice the Rolls:
Roll the dough tightly from one long edge and slice into 12 rolls. Place them in a greased non-stick skillet or pan.
Cook on the Stovetop:
Heat a large skillet over low heat. Cover the skillet with a lid and cook the cinnamon rolls on low for 20-25 minutes, checking occasionally to prevent burning. The rolls should be golden brown and cooked through.
Prepare the Icing:
Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
Drizzle the Icing:
Once the rolls are cooked, remove them from the skillet. Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
Use a non-stick skillet for the best results to prevent the rolls from sticking.
You can also make these rolls ahead of time, cover, and refrigerate them overnight. Let them come to room temperature before cooking on the stovetop.
Keep the heat low to avoid burning the rolls while they cook.
