Description

This Traditional French Toast Recipe features thick slices of bread dipped in a sweet cinnamon egg custard and cooked in butter until golden brown. Soft inside and lightly crisp outside, this easy breakfast classic is perfect for cozy mornings and family brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices thick bread (brioche or day-old white bread)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter for frying
  • Maple syrup or honey for serving
  • Powdered sugar and fresh berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Dip each bread slice into the mixture, coating both sides.
  3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Place soaked bread in skillet.
  5. Cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Add more butter as needed for remaining slices.
  7. Serve warm with syrup, honey, or fruit.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for best texture. Do not oversoak the bread. Cook on medium heat to avoid burning. Store leftovers up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
