Description

This Southern Baked Mac and Cheese is a rich, creamy, and comforting dish made with tender pasta, a blend of cheeses, and a golden baked top. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g elbow macaroni
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni in salted water until al dente.
  2. Drain and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan and whisk in flour to form a roux.
  4. Slowly add milk while stirring until smooth and thickened.
  5. Add seasoning and stir in half of the cheese.
  6. Whisk eggs in a separate bowl and temper with warm sauce.
  7. Combine pasta, sauce, and eggs.
  8. Layer in baking dish with remaining cheese.
  9. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes until golden.

Notes

Use sharp cheddar for strong flavor. Do not overcook pasta. Add a splash of milk when reheating to keep it creamy. You can prepare ahead and bake later.
