Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) hot water or hot coffee
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
- Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Whisk sugar and eggs until smooth.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract and mix well.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients gently.
- Slowly stir in hot water or coffee until batter is smooth.
- Divide batter evenly between pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely before frosting or serving.
Notes
Use hot coffee instead of water to deepen the chocolate flavor. Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake light and fluffy. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze unfrosted layers for up to 2 months.
