Description

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 400 g (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 400 g (14 oz) ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
  • 912 lasagna sheets
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook briefly.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Simmer 20–25 minutes.
  4. Mix ricotta, egg, mozzarella, and Parmesan in a bowl.
  5. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Spread meat sauce in a baking dish. Layer lasagna sheets, ricotta mixture, and sauce. Repeat layers.
  7. Finish with sauce and shredded mozzarella on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 more minutes until golden.
  9. Rest 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Allow lasagna to rest before cutting for clean slices. Prepare one day ahead for deeper flavor. Store in refrigerator up to 4 days or freeze individual portions.
