- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 500 g (1 lb) ground beef
- 400 g (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 400 g (14 oz) ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup grated mozzarella
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
- 9–12 lasagna sheets
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella (for topping)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Simmer 20–25 minutes.
- Mix ricotta, egg, mozzarella, and Parmesan in a bowl.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Spread meat sauce in a baking dish. Layer lasagna sheets, ricotta mixture, and sauce. Repeat layers.
- Finish with sauce and shredded mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 more minutes until golden.
- Rest 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Allow lasagna to rest before cutting for clean slices. Prepare one day ahead for deeper flavor. Store in refrigerator up to 4 days or freeze individual portions.
