Description

This Easy Lasagna Recipe features layers of tender pasta, rich beef tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or make-ahead meals, this comforting classic delivers balanced flavor and beautiful layers every time.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna sheets
  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 700g (24 oz) tomato passata or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 250g (1 cup) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pan and sauté onion for 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer 20 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  5. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a baking dish. Add lasagna sheets, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers.
  7. Finish with sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  8. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes until golden.
  9. Rest 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Allow lasagna to rest before slicing for clean layers. Prepare up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate before baking. Freeze for up to 3 months tightly wrapped.
