- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (topping)
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Pound chicken breasts to 1/2 inch thickness and season with salt and pepper.
- Set up three bowls: flour, beaten eggs with milk, and breadcrumbs mixed with Parmesan and herbs.
- Dredge chicken in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat in breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat olive oil in skillet and fry chicken 4–5 minutes per side until golden.
- Transfer to baking dish and top with marinara sauce and cheeses.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra crispiness, let breaded chicken rest 10 minutes before frying. Store leftovers in refrigerator up to 3 days and reheat in oven to maintain texture. Serve over pasta or with a fresh green salad.
