Description

These Broccoli Beef Braids are a creative and flavorful way to enjoy a beef meal. Tender beef and fresh broccoli are wrapped in golden, flaky pastry to create a dish that’s both satisfying and fun to eat. Perfect for dinner or even a special occasion, these braids will impress everyone at the table!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (ground or thinly sliced)

  • 1 cup broccoli florets (steamed or blanched)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • 1 small onion (diced)

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Prepare the beef: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Add the broccoli: Stir in the steamed or blanched broccoli florets and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  • Assemble the braid: Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet. Spoon the beef and broccoli mixture along the center of the pastry, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.

  • Cut and braid: Cut strips along the sides of the pastry. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating from each side to form a braid.

  • Add the egg wash: Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the braid for a golden, shiny finish. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

  • For a healthier twist, you can use whole wheat puff pastry or substitute the beef with lean ground turkey.

  • The filling can also be adjusted by adding different vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers for extra flavor.

  • If you don’t have puff pastry, you can use crescent roll dough as an alternative.
